CUCHIFRITOS!!!!!

OK.....now you can find one of these spots in any neighborhood in New York, but this one I take a BUS just to get some of what they have to offer. Need to feed yourself or a family of four (4) and foe CHEAP!, well this is your place. It's called La Isla Cuchifritos.

No formal seating but a few stools to sit only but just the view from the window will make your mouth WATER. Feed your whole family for about $20 bucks! Don't get intimidated when you walk in if you don't speak Spanish because the workers here are all friendly and speak enough English to understand you. Try the roast chicken w/ rice and beans if your unfamiliar or if you have some understanding of Latin cuisine try the tripe and pigs feet soup. Don't forget to wash it all down with some coconut juice or tamarind juice! La Isla Cuchifritos gets a score of 10!

Caribbean treats mixed with some influence from French cuisine, Footprints Cafe in Flatbush Brooklyn keeps em' coming back for more! Not only known for the Rasta Pasta, they play host as the after party spot where karaoke and always say Footprints is the place to be after to finish the night. I've tried many Caribbean dishes and restaurants before but not only is the food here great!, but the atmosphere is soooo inviting and filled with fun that coming back is a given.

TACO NIGHT!!!!

I love to dine @ places that the food can be shared amongst the table. BURRITO BAR in Park Slope, Brooklyn is just the place. In the warmer months the outside seating makes you feel as though your not sitting in Brooklyn but in Mexico enjoying the nightlife at a local bar. Burrito Bar also offers something for everyone from tacos, burritos, salads, vegetarian dishes, and celebrity inspired smoothies like, "Tina Turners Addiction" and "Beatles's Mania".

Burrito Bar is the perfect place to entertain or just dine with friends or family and have a good time! Good Drinks+Good Food=Good Time! Who wouldn't want to try deep fried ice cream (oh my!)

The menu makes it soooooo hard to decide what to eat! Guacamole, min burritos, tuna ceviche or stuffed jalapenos? What is a girl to do? Oh and they have Deep Fried Ice Cream! haha....
Eat In or Take Out Burrito Bar is the place to eat freely and good. :)

Stuffed Jalapenos wrapped W/bacon

Not Georgia's Peaches.

They call it a "Brooklyn Country Cafe", offering a variety of southern classics, market fresh food, and delicious salads which makes choosing from the menu tough. PEACHES is small and quaint tucked into Bedford-Stuyvesant
Brooklyn! After riding past this place several dozen times and not knowing what it was but why is was so crowed I decided to stop and see what the buzz was about. Well guess what! It was a stop I'm glad I made. PEACHES gets a score of 9 from me.

Shhhh...Don't tell my Cardiologist. But I've found HEAVEN!

As seen famously on most food channels, The ChipShop is just the place to indulge yourself (just once....maybe). Extremely popular in England, the creator wanted to expand his business and decided to head to the US. Well now everyone is tossing out their diets and calling their cardiologist after a visit here beacsuse it's just that good. With pricing low and food expectations high and nervous The Chipshop is a 10 for me. the only item I had on my mind when visiting this place was the deep fried oreo. Not just a cookie after it's battered and fried, but a melt in your mouth treat.

Sentimental Favorite!!

Ahhhhh..........Anytime I get the chance I visit this place......Catania's Bakery in Ridgewood. It's a bit of a journey to get there because its not quite around the corner from me. This is the bakery my late grandmother Laverne Powell adored. After her passing in 2009, Catania's is still frequented and loved by my mom and I. We loooovveee this place! She loves when i bring her the sugar cookies and especially the tri-color ones.  Although the address is in Queens it's located on the borderline of Queens/Brooklyn. You can get 4 mini cheesecakes which are topped plain or with whipped cream and a strawberry for about 9 bucks! or buy the cookies by the pound. They also bake and sell fresh bread which most of their regulars come in for every week and sometimes everyday. Catania Bakery is a big 10!

RAVENishly Good!

You've never had good cake until you've tried CakeMan Ravens' cakes. Best known for the scrumptious and filling portions of Red Velvet cake, this Brooklyn based bakery is sure to tame any sweet tooth! This can be one of those treats that you get every once in a while being that we have to watch our waistlines right! lol (yeah right). I could go for a slice of this anytime of the day. Also because it's located right across the street from Night of the Cookers it makes the perfect after dinner dessert. CakeMan Raven gets a 7.

Those who know good food and ambiance know NIGHT OF THE COOKERS! I have been to this restaurant more times than an other restaurant on my blog and everytime feels like the first time because I'm amazed at how great this place is. The service is great and the drinks are enough to take a cab home after! lol I always want to be seated in a corner or in the back here just so I can observed and see people and enjoy the atmosphere and you wouldn't believe how many celebrity citings have taken place with my own eyes. Night of the Cookers is a 10!

Located Downtown Brooklyn, 'Cookers' as most would call it serves southern comfort food but refined. Serving up super friendly service and upbeat soulful music, 'Cookers' is the perfect spot for date night or friendly get- together.

Prices: $3-$13(starters) but enought to be an entree (Catfish Fingers!)
$8-$20(entree) I recommend the Blackened Catfish
             $8-(approx) $12- (Drinks)

South Africa meets Brooklyn

The restaurant was inspired by Nelson Mandela
This week I've finally paid a visit to a place I've been looking @ for years.

MADIBA, In Fort Greene Brooklyn may look small and quaint but step inside, and its dress down service and tasty plates of delicious comfort food(South African style) make you feel @ home! This is another restaurant that I have drove past too many times to not stop but this time I grabbed some friends and stepped inside this cultural experience. I was very taken back in a good way bybthe history and culture I was surround by in Madiba. From the abstract paintings of Nelson Mandela to the African masks placed on the wall above where I sat, to the wooden table and chairs and vintage subway posters and signs to tie in the urban surrounding of New York and its hip Fort Greene neighborhood, Madiba =8.

A LITTLE SWEET :)

 BAKED BY MELISSA

This week I've decided to feature a small taste of
what I like to treat my self to when i venture out of  BROOKLYN.

With locations in SOHO, GRAND CENTRAL, and my most frequented UNION SQUARE! This sweet spot offers cupcakes the about the size of a Quarter but pack with just just enough sweet to satisfy any tooth. Prices range from about $20 for 25 cupcakes and up(Yummy!) They even take pick-up, delivery or even shipped cakes (min order 100 cakes $70) If you happen to check out their website or you can even follow them on facebook you will see that you have the oppurtunity when ordering to create your own cupcake for orders with a minimun of 300 cupcakes. This can get expensive but I say just try the 25 for 20 bucks and you will sure enough go back for more! Melissa's is a small but big 7.
